Mississippi Trip 2026

None of us are immune to the increasing churn of life. As I write, down the street the tide is going in and out, no two hours does Lanesville ever look the same. That said, one of the unique challenges of our current moment is that whenever we seem to be building momentum in community, someone is called to a job elsewhere. We feel like we keep starting back at zero. It's exhausting.

So it is refreshing, and important, that Lanesville has been committed to going to the Sawmill Quarter in Canton, Mississippi for now four decades. There were years that Covid took, and the Mission has changed over the years, from repairing homes, to running a neighborhood VBS (in Mississippi, in July!), but a key part has always been prolonged partnership. Our trip has always been first and foremost an assisting role, coming alongside the daily work Jasper and Carolyn Bacon with In His Steps do there. Do check out all that good work. But over time, that has evolved into partnering with other churches to come alongside what God is doing in Canton.

Yes, there is deep growth in discipleship as the team travels there and back. Yes, there are missteps and opportunities for fellowship along the way. Yes, there is great rejoicing at annual reunions. But mostly, there is praise, that God faithfully ministers in our weakness, testifying to His enduring faithfulness, through now 4 decades of gospel ministry and life together.

At 4am tomorrow morning, Lanesville's team will begin the annual odyssey down to Mississippi. Please pray for them to once again lay hold of, and proclaim, the mystery of Christ, with care and gratitude as they go (Colossians 4:3).
